It can be too much. It's likely that your dog falls into this second category.
It's important that you find ways to keep your dog cool in summer.
Heat stroke and heat exhaustion are very real threats for dogs.
If you don't take the proper precautions, the summer heat could be detrimental to your pet. Just think, would you like to be outside during the summer months for hours at a time without any relief from the heat?
Overheating and dehydration are some of the most common and dangerous conditions that a dog could have.

2. Keep up with regular and proper grooming!
A summer cut will help cut down on the time you spend brushing, as well as prevent knots and mats from forming. The majority of dogs only need a trim every six to nine weeks. But dogs with curly or extra-long coats probably need to visit the groomer more often.
But whatever you do, DON'T shave your dog down to the skin.
Every breed is Different and requires a unique hair cut!
GET TO KNOW YOUR COATS ❤️!!
Double-coated breeds have two layers to protect against arctic weather. The long guard hairs form the outer layer and protect against snow or ice and even shed water. The soft undercoat lies close to the skin and keeps your dog warm and dry.
In winter this undercoat can be so thick you may have trouble finding your dog’s skin.
In summer, your dog should shed his soft undercoat, leaving just the guard hairs. The job of the guard hairs in warm weather is to protect your dog from sunburn and insulate him against the heat. Without the undercoat, air can circulate through the guard hairs, cooling the skin.
Unlike single coated breeds, who have hair that just keeps growing, double coats grow to a certain length and don’t get any longer. So you can shave a single-coated breed down and the coat will grow back again without really changing it. But that’s not true for double coats.
Shaving a double-coated breed can really ruin the coat.
Your pet will be much happier when his winter coat is gone!
3. TO THE BEACH!
We all know the best way to BEAT THE HEAT is a trip to the BEACH or the LAKE!
There are so many pet friendly dog beaches and lakes around the Fraser valley that you can take your pup to for a day in the water!!
if you are unable to get there, no worries.
Keeping your dog hydrated is important, but you can also help them cool down with water play, have a hose? GREAT. Even just a little kiddie pool helps, but a good swim will help keep their body temperature at a comfortable level when they are overwhelmed with heat. Dogs may enjoy a refreshing dip, just like we do!!
We’ve got pools at Doggie Daycare! Come and Beat the Heat with us!
